The Importance Of Cyber Security To Companies

June 19, 2019Simeon Georgiev

From workstations to laptops and smartphones, the world has come to our fingertips, and everything we can imagine is right there on our screens, including the cybercrimes. Yes, we are living in the best of times, but we have become more vulnerable to the outside threats.

As time is progressing, we can see that our businesses have also become high tech and internet based. From daily transactions to online money transfers, we do almost all of our business online. However, all of this can become our weaknesses if we are exposed to cyber-attacks. Companies have become more vulnerable in the hands of technology.

According to a recent survey, most companies have reported that cyber criminals attacked them and their data, files, software, websites, etc. were compromised. They ended up losing their assets and market share. Some had to bear heavy losses at the hands of these attackers. Many people had to pay just because their employees didn’t upgrade the system and didn’t have proper training as to how to deal with these problems

Moreover, it is a common practice that companies keep some of their data or records confidential for its official use only. These files may contain information that may harm the company’s reputation or the employee’s name. If this kind of data is leaked or is held hostage, it is extremely traumatizing for the company and employees. It is necessary to use tools that ensure that the data isn’t compromised or used in any other way.

Similarly, another threat faced by the internet user is the use of malware or ransomware attacks. This has become extremely common in the business industry. One out of four companies is attacked each month by the virus, and a ransom is demanded. They keep the files hostage till they are paid a huge amount. A lot of companies have reported that they didn’t receive their data even after they had paid. On the other hand, the antivirus industry is also working hard in coming up with the best possible software to protect the future of online activities.  They are seen to have kept a record of all the newest kind of threats faced by the ordinary man.

Neglecting the security of the company will leave a bad impression on the clients. The security breach may result in loss of data, client information, or many other things that might lead to a bad reputation of the company. This may also result in losing lifelong customers. In many cases, it seems that the failure to protect client information leads to heavy losses on the hands of law enforcement agencies.

The best way to keep the business protected from the threats of the cyber world is to keep the system updated and secure. It is also important to train your staff on how to protect the company’s system and reputation. A little investment now will surely help in keeping the company secure.
