The Cost of Free Applications

October 14, 2019Simeon Georgiev

We are living in an age where even the simplest of tasks within our daily routine are controlled, monitored, and regulated by technological gadgets. Almost everyone now owns a smartphone and is with them all the time. These smartphones have a lot of apps installed in them for various purposes. Most of these apps are free of cost, and people install whatever app they deem beneficial for them without considering whether the app is safe to install or not.

Various cybersecurity services emphasize on how costly some free apps can be and how they can lead you to seek services for ransomware recovery.  Whether you install these free apps for convenience or fun, here are some of the costly aspects of free applications you must know:

Malware and other Viruses

Free apps might look fun initially, but they have the potential to put you into the pits of ransomware removal. Cybersecurity services have reported various cases where hackers intentionally design these apps and make them available free of cost. Once installed, these apps can send malware to your device, can access your data, and do other such activities on your device that can later lead you to a tiring process of ransomware recovery.

Battery Damage

Other than sending malware, these free applications use up your battery. Once you install these apps, your battery keeps on draining for no reason, and the battery is damaged permanently over time. This is because such apps keep on showing ads and working in the background even when they are not in use.

Too Much Data Use

For some people, the cost of free applications can be even more tormenting than seeking assistance for ransomware recovery.

These free of cost apps keep on playing ads and updating themselves on their own for the addition of newer and updated features. Even when an updated app works better than the older version, frequent and numerous updates and ads playing in between can use a lot of your internet volume. It can get somehow very costly if you are using data on your phone all the time and do not pay attention to the amount of MBs being utilized by the apps daily.

Ruined Phone’s Performance

Cybersecurity services discourage users from installing any free app without confirmation of it being a useful one because these apps can send malware to your phone, destroy its memory, and cause other damage to both the software and hardware of your phone. Once the damage is done, your whole device starts delivering sub-par performance. This ruined performance cannot be repaired in the majority of the cases even when the app has been uninstalled.

Owing to all these hidden costs of free applications, users are always advised first to confirm if the app is worthy of being installed or not.
