Should organizations hire Ransomware recovery experts? Why?

April 29, 2020Simeon Georgiev

One of the most widespread cyber threats worldwide, ransomware, as we know it, is a malicious malware that attacks an organization’s assets by locking all the files, holding them hostage until the huge ransom payment demanded by the attackers is made to attain the decryption key.

In case of a ransomware attack that may be colossally disastrous for the organization, it is undoubtedly, highly advisable to hire ransomware recovery experts who have sufficient experience and a proven track record. It is recommendable to leave the task of malware removal and data recovery in their court to prevent any further losses. In many cases, handling the situation on your own can make matters more complicated, ultimately leading to the loss of more data.

Although it may incur the huge firm sums of money to hire professional assistance, the benefits certainly outweigh the costs.

Ransomware recovery experts are proficient in their jobs. They can provide quick and efficient evaluations of the intensity of the attack that has hit the company by recognizing the kind of malware and devising strategies to deal with it accordingly.

Security experts are experienced to tackle the attackers in a much more professional manner. They may be able to convince the attackers to lower their ransom demand, which the organization itself may not be able to do effectively.

As ransomware attacks are highly targeted today, attackers use complicated encryption algorithms. The recovery experts possess the advanced and sophisticated knowledge required that the organization itself lacks. It is, therefore, preferable to let experts deal with the situation, or the organization might end up unintentionally revealing sinister information, giving the opportunity to attackers to take advantage of this and further expand the extent of the issue.

The decryption key for the latest ransomware attack may not be easily available. Organizations, hence, need to turn to the security officials to try to obtain the key. In some cases, the particular variant of the malware cannot be decrypted or might have already been applied, therefore it is ineffective. They can professionally decide what steps to take.

Once the decryption key is obtained, it needs to be deployed properly, or it may have adverse effects, increasing the risk of losing all the data or corrupting it further. There is a series of steps that need to be followed to decrypt the data and recover the system. Any blunder might turn out to be detrimental, therefore deeming it fundamental for professionals to handle the situation, or it might have harmful consequences.

A proper ransomware recovery service will ensure that the malware is completely removed from the system, alleviating the chances of a relapse. The extortionists might grant the key, but they do not promise not to crash the systems again. It is, therefore, imperative that the organization’s system is equipped with proper anti-malware software and up to date operating systems.

Moreover, unlike the regular IT experts hired at the organizations, ransomware experts are skilled in the field, and the staff undergoes regular training to update themselves about the latest Ransomware attacks, encryption, and decryption tools and recovery techniques. Just like the attackers are using advanced and sophisticated encryption algorithms for ransomware attacks, it becomes imperative for cybersecurity to be able to contrive corresponding strategies to combat the attack. A regular organization may not be proficient enough and lacks the expertise required to deal with the progressive nature of these attacks.

Ransomware recovery requires tremendous efforts. Once the victim organization hires recovery experts, it can hand over the majority of the responsibility to them, including managing the technical personnel, hiring lawyers, and communication specialists. It can divert its attention to other operational and administrative issues that also arise as a result of the attack.

To successfully recover from the catastrophic effects of a ransomware attack, it is thereby integral to hire experts to mitigate the effects and make the rigorous procedure of recovery easier.
