How to Remove Blower Ransomware?

February 21, 2019Simeon Georgiev

The Ransom Message

Victims of Blower ransomware receive a file named ‘.readme.txt’ when their files have been encrypted with the ‘.blower’ extension. These cybercriminals were also known to charge $980, but this is probably the case because the same extension is used by 2 ransomware families that are currently active. One thing is for sure though – they aren’t shy in asking their victims for huge ransoms.

How the Cybercriminals Gain Victims’ Trust

It was found that the developers of Blower ransomware offer their victims a free test for decryption. By doing so, they try and gain the trust of their targets. We would highly recommend our readers to avoid such advances and refrain from contacting cybercriminals in any way. Besides, there is also a huge change that the perpetrators would even leave you without any decryption even if you have paid the full amount of ransom.

The Ransomware Removal Process

The process of removing this ransomware from systems that have been affected has been found to be too hard to be done manually. This is why we suggest that victims download and install anti-malware softwares such as the Plumbytes Anti-Malware, Malwarebytes, or Reimage software. These can easily detect and target all the malicious components in your computer.

That being said, it also important to mention here that before you go ahead with any process for data recovery, you should make sure that the Blower ransomware has been completely removed. In order to make sure, you will have to reboot your system and access it on Safe mode. Once this has been done, go ahead and activate the feature for System Restore in order to effectively deactivate all forms of malicious activity on your system.

Preventive Measures

In order to avoid getting affected by Blower ransomware or any other strain of ransomware out there, you will have to make sure you take some preventive measures. These include paying more attention to all the malicious emails you receive and avoiding downloading any attachment they contain.

Remember that preventive measures always work better as opposed to post-disaster measures!
