Embrace Ransomware: The New Variant of Everbe

May 30, 2018Simeon Georgiev

We know that cryptovirological developers constantly try to make their infiltrations successful and ransomware removal activities ineffective. Therefore, they regularly work on improving the encryption and infiltration activity of the existent strains and introduce their new variants.

Recently, cybersecurity experts detected a new variant of Everbe in the cyber. This new variant, called Embrace ransomware, infiltrates the system and starts its encryption activity from the documents and photos stored on the device. Every encrypted file is appended with a long extension name that also contains the email of the attackers.

Once the encryption activity ends, a ransom note in a text format starts to appear in every folder of the affected device. The ransom note directs the victim to send email for ransomware removal. The operators of Embrace ransomware also ‘advise’ the victims to no trying ransomware removal on their own because it would only waste their time. Moreover, they also warn that the amount of ransom will be increased by 100 percent after every seven days in case of non-payment.

Ransom Payment is not the Solution

Experts suggest that the affected victims must refrain from dealing with the attackers for ransomware removal. Paying ransom to the attacker and banking on their conscience for data recovery is indeed not a wise move. So what one should do?

Since no decryption tool is available for unlocking the encrypted files as of yet, therefore you can only have your device disinfected from professional ransomware removal measures. For the recovery of data, only regular backups can help. This is the reason why backups are always considered the most effective solution to any ransomware activity.

It is important to understand that even if ransomware removal activities can’t restore your encrypted files, they will still be necessary so you can safely use your device for other tasks.

Shadow Volume Copies Might Help

It’s still not clear if Embrace ransomware also deletes shadow volume copies from the infected device. So, you may succeed in recovering some of your data with the help of shadow volume copies. In any case, it will be better to get the services of digital security personnel with the expertise of ransomware removal.
