The Impact of Ransomware Attacks on COSCO (CSL) found to be International

August 7, 2018Simeon Georgiev

Ransomware removal reporters have realized that the recent ransomware attack on COSCO Shipping Lines (CSL) has not been limited to its operations in the USA. The attack made headlines when it managed to cripple various operations of the company’s US operations including dealings with customers and business associates.

However, it has been found that the attack has also impacted the company’s operations in the neighboring country of Canada as well as the South American countries including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Panama, and Uruguay. The web pages of these companies have also been non-functional similar to their US counterpart.

Moreover, ransomware removal reporters noted that websites in Turkey and the United Kingdom have also become entangled in the issue. Thus, there has been an air of certainty in the IT circles regarding the exact scale of the attack.

However, officials from the company have clarified that all the affected countries’ systems have been disconnected from the Shanghai server. Additionally, work is being done for the ransomware removal and recovery to resume the operations of each country.

CSL also stated that it has adopted security measures for the isolation of networks so cybersecurity examinations can be done globally. Furthermore, they opined that their non-American systems had been recovered by Wednesday. For their American operations, CSL explained that their staff was working to the best of their abilities to wrap up the investigation and restore the networks to their original state.

Furthermore, a CSL spokesperson also informed ransomware removal reporters that they had initiated their contingency plans. These contingency plans were developed with the objective of shifting operations and assisting in supervising them through remote access. This way, clients could receive services on a continuous basis while the security experts could deal with the aftermath of the attack.

For the time being, customers have been requested to use alternative email addresses or reserve email addresses for service requests like instructions, booking, and others.
