How to Remove LockerGoga Ransomware?

February 12, 2019Simeon Georgiev

LockerGoga ransomware was a threat that was discovered after it had affected some companies with its initial attacks on European countries. Quite recently, its attack on Altran Technologies has caused companies all over the world to invest in various ransomware removal strategies. Altran Technologies has recently come up with some insider information about how their clients could protect themselves against this threat.

The Ransom Note

The text file every victim of this ransomware receives consists of the usual warnings of:

DO NOT RESET OR SHUTDOWN – files may be damaged.

DO NOT RENAME the encrypted files.

DO NOT MOVE the encrypted files

Even though you shouldn’t trust your attacker, we advise you adhere to these instructions. You should also not go about paying the ransom as there is also no guarantee that your files will be decrypted. Yes, attackers tend to leave their victims helpless at times too!

LockerGoga Ransomware Removal Instructions

LockerGoga is a ransomware that encrypts the files on a system and then asks its victims for ransom payments. These victims are also provided with a ransom note that is received usually in a ‘README-NOW.txt’. The algorithms used in this ransomware were found to be AES-256 and RSA4096 and this is how files on targeted systems get encrypted.

When this happens, it is important for every victim to realize that while getting their files recovered is quite important, ransomware removal companies stress on the fact that cleaning the device is equally important. This should be done in order to completely remove all the processes of the malware from the device.

That being said, simple ransomware removal tools can work beautifully to eliminate LockerGoga from their systems. These ransomware tools may include Plumbytes Anti-Malware, Malwarebytes, or even Reimage. With the help of these tools it is will be quite easy for the victims to fix all damages that may have been caused while also scanning the system for other potential threats. You can even go ahead to double-check your systems with these ransomware removal tools to really make sure the persistent cyber security threat has been removed effectively.

Once the Ransomware Has Been Removed

Once the ransomware removal process is over, you can go ahead and move on with the data recovery options. The best solution for your future needs is to have data backups in place with the help of cloud systems or even external devices. Here, you should also realize that not all backups are up-to-date. For this very reason, it is important to look up file recovery options before you go ahead and implement them.
