FBI Cautions against Ransomware Attacks

July 9, 2018Simeon Georgiev

FBI officials have recently expressed their views on the ransomware threats. According to a ransomware removal cyber expert in FBI, corporations will begin to see a rise of ransomware attacks on their systems as cyber criminals are enjoying the attraction of easy money in cybercrimes.

According to James Morrison of FBI, cyber criminals are continuously looking for openings in the hardware, software and operating systems of an organization’s computer systems by attacking ransomware and other cyber threats.

Moreover, he also alerted against the insider threats as he believes that they will rise too. The reason behind these developments in the cyber security space is the large amount of funding that cybercriminal organizations have been receiving. They are also understood to be too sophisticated and knowledgeable in regards to computer security and technologies which make it tougher to catch them in comparison to other criminals who are not equipped with technical knowledge.

Moreover, he explained that many people think of them as lone attackers behind a computer screen but this impression is wrong. FBI’s research in ransomware removal has made them realize that these criminals are often located in other countries with advanced computer setups that help them to organize effective cyber attacks. The location of these criminals have raised FBI’s suspicions and made them realize that that they are backed by rival countries to do their dirty work.

Furthermore, they have also become more imaginative in order to lure individuals and organizations. These cybercriminals try to infiltrate by conversing with an employee by either pretending to be a potential client or as an employee who asks for a request.

As many employees fall into the trap of these cybercriminals and accept their requests by typing critical information, clicking a link or downloading a malicious file, the ransomware enters into the machine, locks the system and forced the company to pay in order to remove ransomware.

In order to deal with these cyber attacks especially to remove ransomware, Mr. Morrison recommended companies to improve their security measures as well as work with trusted security vendors as they cannot fight against these attacks alone.
