European Countries Join Hands against Ransomware and Cryptocurrency Malware

August 27, 2018Simeon Georgiev

The French security agency ANSSI and the German BSI have been collaborating for a number of years in order to tackle the biggest cyber threats that not only revolve around France and Germany but are affecting users in the whole European cyber world. Ransomware removal experts have found the BSI and the ANSSI to work on a report that encompasses the ever-growing cyber threats in the European security circles. These threats contain two major malware: ransomware and cryptocurrency mining software.

Many ransomware like Petya, WannaCry, and GandCrab operate on an international level. They use similar tactics to bypass the security of organizations in the public and private sector. With international cooperation and exchange of vital information on such attacks, all the stakeholders can work on their threat intelligence programs and construct an effective Managed Detection and Response strategy.

The joint-report, known as the “Common Situational Picture” entails the keenness of these European security agencies that can strengthen their communication and unite them as a single unit against the rising onslaught of cyberattacks.

This report is not a one-time affair. The report is just the first edition; more are expected in the future. In this first edition, ransomware removal reporters have noted the agencies studying the different activities and techniques that are most commonly employed by ransomware and cryptocurrency mining malware. The victims of these attacks were found to range from common citizens to conglomerates as businesses of all sizes and types were wrecked without any discrimination.

The agencies were able to reach the same conclusion that stated that ransomware attacks are still a worrying conundrum and they are rising staggeringly. Interestingly, both the agencies realized that their respective countries had a varying degree of damages that deal with ransomware removal, recovery, and other costs.
