ESET Joins Global Initiative to Fight against Ransomware

January 13, 2019Simeon Georgiev

ESET, the famed ransomware removal and firewall company, recently announced that it has joined hands with the Europol (the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation). The Dutch national police and ransomware removal company are calling their initiative ‘No More Ransom’ and have come up with this collaborative project for the victims of ransomware.

This initiative has already managed to help 72,000 victims worldwide with their ransomware removal strategies because of their synergy with over 130 partners. Collectively, they have 59 products which are decryption tools, and these tools have the ability to cover over 91 families of ransomware variants!

All of their products are going to be made free online and as a result victims have been able to collectively save $22 million from going into the pockets of cybercriminals. ESET also came up with the surprising figure of 250,000 downloads of their software products alongside an announcement of two new products available for download.

Well, No More Ransom has made it clear that it is their mission to fight against cybercriminals, and we can say without a doubt that they have brought forward very impressive results. ESET has been collaborating with law enforcement agencies since all the way back in 2016, and have been successful in some massive takedowns. They even took down the infamous ransomware family called Gamarue malware.

This latest partnership, however, is continually proving itself to be committed to its purpose. If the project continues to do so, it will not only make ransomware a threat from the past, but also capture the market of ransomware removal. With their help, we can look forward to a world that is increasingly digitally safe and sound. It is also anticipated that some major players will join the initiative. Only time will tell how powerful this digital law enforcement movement really becomes.
