Blackmailing Through the Internet

May 19, 2019Simeon Georgiev

Everyone who has been a victim of online blackmailing has been through different situations. If you are one of them, you have to know that it is not your fault.

Most of the blackmailing schemes start with people disguising themselves as someone else, using fake id’s to enter into private conversations. They make you comfortable enough to open up and share personal information. Later, such people stop responding and you realize that it was all a scam. You get a clearer picture when the person shows up and demands money, blackmailing you with your personal information that he has.

These blackmailers sitting at the back of their screens are cowards, who don’t have enough potential to face the world and they hide with fake online masks.

You must have felt helpless at that time, but due to the increasing percentage of online blackmail, we are giving you short guidelines to know how to deal with such issues:

Never delete a single message

As soon as you realize that you are been victimized, start gathering evidence. Don’t worry about the embarrassment they may cause you, but it would probably help you of not being bankrupt.

Stop every contact with them:

Stop talking to that person, the more you’ll beg him to spare you, the more he’ll try to manipulate you. Block them from every social media platform and do not respond to any of their messages.

Do not get provoked

As hard as the other person provokes you or coaxes you to respond and negotiate with them, you keep on rolling in their web. They may end up asking you to fulfill any of their need or desire that you are not comfortable doing in or else they’ll end up harming you.

Do not waste time complaining to authorities

Do not let the shame and blame game stop you from filing and forwarding this case to the cybercrime department. They know very well how to deal with online harassers.

How can you avoid being in such situations?

  • Use complex passwords

Using complex passwords may save you from hackers who may try to get into your accounts to steal personal information.

  • Learn how to spot a scam email

Once you know how to spot fake emails, you can get free of all this hacking. No one can harass you when you know ways to shield yourself. Looking at the typing and offers such emails have, you can easily recognize if they are fake or real.

  • Remove important personal information

Try to remove very important details and critical information from different online platforms.

Although we cannot do much to stop online blackmailing, we can surely prevent it from making us a victim of it. Contacting higher authorities for law enforcement should be the first major step taken in such situations.
