Gone are the days when Blackberry used to rule the mobile world. However, this does not mean that this mobile giant has slowed down with its innovations and ambitions. The mobile giant has recently announced that it is focusing on fighting the ransomware attacks through a new solution.
Though its peak time may have passed, the company still releases mobile phones. Interestingly, it has begun working more towards the software side. Recently, ransomware removal reporters found out that the company presented a piece of code that will be part of the BlackBerry Workspaces updates. Through this update, an organization’s management can determine which files have been affected by a ransomware and quickly restore the systems to the pre-attack state for ransomware removal.
Through this solution, BlackBerry is once again hopeful to increase the productivity and efficiency for its target audience, the business community. Some experts believe that such a solution will help in the minimization of the downtime. However, others believe that a complete network clean up, ransomware removal, and restoration option might be the best option for businesses in the wake of a ransomware attack.
Billy Ho, the Vice President of enterprise products at BlackBerry, stated that a ransomware manages to cause the loss of data, messes up businesses opportunities, and shatters the reputation of a business while downtime damages further cripple its victims. He especially pinpointed the public safety and healthcare industry.
With 2018 featuring many prominent healthcare institutions and public safety systems in the midst of ransomware attacks, Mr. Billy’s concerns cannot be downplayed.
Mr. Billy further said that organizations will have to create a work culture where security is of utmost important so any impending ransomware attack can be neutralized in time. For worst case scenarios, he encouraged organizations to have a cyber defense strategy with the latest technology and tools that can handle a cyber threat and limit its damages.
