The latest report on ransomware strains and ransomware removal was extremely insightful. Ryan Weeks, CISO (Chief Information Security Officer) at Datto, explained that businesses had to come out of their shells, irrespective of their scale. Instead of waiting for a ransomware attack, Weeks recommended a more proactive approach where businesses can formulate strategies to counter these attacks exactly at the time of their occurrence.
Weeks believes that there are multiple response techniques that can assist businesses immediately when a ransomware strikes the IT infrastructure. By adopting these techniques, companies can enhance their security defense and provide stiff resistance to any upcoming cyberthreat in future.
On the other hand, the Datto survey shed light over the most effective solutions that helped SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises) to conduct recovery and ransomware removal processes.
BCDR (Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery)
Among all solutions, the BCDR technology emerged as a life-saver for many businesses. According to 90% of the spokesperson from MSPs, customers—who made use of BCDR immediately after getting hit—were able to crawl out of the mess in less than a day!
However, BCDR must not be the sole ransomware removal solution. Businesses should contact MSPs to carve out a well-built response plan which includes several aspects like ransomware detection, ransomware removal, recovery etc.
Employees as the First Line of Defense
When cybercriminals inflict losses to SMEs, sometimes they are successful because of their ability to target employees; hence these employees as a business group are the actual weak links that provide access to the organization. In such attacks, several social engineering techniques like clickbait, phishing etc are used. However, the report found out that employees who were educated and trained to improve their digital hygiene were able to become a more formidable force of defense against cybercriminals and therefore were useful in negating these cyberthreats.
