Ransomware Attack Cripples Local Libraries and Alaska Government Offices

Ransomware removal analysts saw yet another case that has been added to the increasingly worrying list of ransomware attacks, especially the ones occurring repeatedly in the American state of Alaska. Each industry and sector has been hit, but what makes these cyber-threats especially dangerous is their boldness and courage to hit the governmental institutions in the US.

Recently, ransomware removal reporters found out that the municipalities in the American state of Alaska were hit by ransomware. Moreover, Matanuska-Susitna Borough, a borough in Alaska with more than 100,000 residents was also affected. So the question arises; what effect did the cyber attack have on the government institutions?

According to a ransomware removal analyst, the attack rendered a number of services unavailable for use. These included debit and credit card services for transactions in the local libraries. Thus, many people had to face difficulties as they had to resort to cash-based transactions.

In order to save government systems from further damage, a decision was reached that resulted in the IT assets of the affected offices being taken offline. This also meant that the typewriters had to be switched off as well, which resulted in the bitterness and annoyance of the government employees as their shifts became harder and longer due to hand-written work. A municipality official stated that due to the internet’s unavailability, many workers were unable to use it entirely as they do not have a computer in their homes.

Fortunately, the Wi-Fi systems were able to resume their operations within a week. Additionally, preparations were made to recover lost emails. Subsequently, more than 600 servers and computers became part of the ransomware removal and recovery process. Other systems that were affected included the ticket system which was also taken offline after the ransomware attack.
