Ransomware caused an incredible amount of damage in 2016 and 2017. In fact, 2017 saw cyber security become a question of national importance after attacks from WannaCry and NotPetya left businesses, domestic users and government agencies similarly perplexed at how incapable they were of facing such attacks. With no ransomware removal tool capable enough to remove them, there was also a clear lack of any other technique to remove ransomware.
It is for this reason that ransomware attacks cost the economy upwards of $5 billion and that amount is expected to go up as time progresses. The reason behind that has been the continued failure of tech firms and giants in coming up with a ransomware removal tool.
There was a sense of silver lining when it was revealed via an FBI report that ransomware attacks in 2018 were down compared to last year. Industry experts welcomed it considering how at the same time last year, in the absence of a clear ransomware removal technique, no one was safe from it.
However, even that joy seems to be short-lived as it was later revealed that although the number of ransomware attacks were down, the lethal ransomware were still a threat as they would likely be back with improved codes and an even more lethal attacking procedure.
It should be mentioned here that though there’s still no concrete way to remove ransomware, efforts are underway from both the businesses themselves as well as tech giants to ensure that the damage from these attacks is kept at a minimum.
Ransomware came in plenty of different forms in 2017 and it is believed that 2018 could still bring more ransomware attacks. While there were some ransomware attacks that were easy to spot because of the obvious ransom notes, there were others that follow a more discreet route.
One of the primary reasons why ransomware has grown to become such a lethal problem is because of how inadequate some of the corporate policies regarding ransomware have been. Updating these policies could lend an incredibly useful hand towards the efforts to come up with a potent strategy to remove ransomware.
