Facebook launched a new section on its massive website, called ‘Facebook Jobs’. Just like the similar sections on various other sites, this feature will allow job seekers to look for jobs and potential employers to advertise openings.
The feature has already gone public, and is available to the entirety of the user base.
2.2 Billion Users now have Access to Jobs Section
As 2017 concluded, Facebook boasted a total user base of 2.2 billion, and it can safely be said that a considerable number of those users will ultimately seek a job at some point in time.
According to some, the move has been to offset LinkedIn, as Facebook would rather keep users within the site, while giving them an ‘easy to use’ platform.
For the longest time, LinkedIn was considered difficult to use, and a profile was considered not just hard to manage, but excessive in terms of potential notifications. However, despite this opinion, LinkedIn is still the largest database for professionals, which can be credited to the size and scope of the platform.
Facebook, on the other hand, is quite a bit larger than LinkedIn, and has the potential to cater to a much wider audience of professionals who would hitherto go on LinkedIn for professional connections.
Facebook said to Auto-Populate Resume Sections
According to Alex Himel, the Facebook VP of Local, “When you’re ready to apply for a role, you can create an application, which will populate with job history and other information in your Facebook profile. You can edit your application before you submit it. Businesses will only be able to see information you provide them directly, and what’s available publicly on your Facebook profile.”
Once an application has been submitted by a user, Facebook will open a private conversation box with the company itself, within its profile, which will allow the applicant to confirm whether or not their application was received. They can also ask for details, conduct interviews and such.
The feature will also allow users to submit applications directly on to the pages of companies, and respond to offers in the newly constructed interface, in the Facebook Marketplace, as well as in the news feeds of followers.
